The Opportunity

Finatal is partnering exclusively with a thriving Private Equity-backed SaaS business headquartered in South Yorkshire/Derby/Nottinghamshire. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly capable and driven Group Financial Controller to lead and impact the trajectory of this business.

This organisation has secured significant Private Equity investment to execute an ambitious buy-and-build strategy. With several acquisitions already completed and a robust pipeline in place, the business is positioned for rapid expansion, with a planned exit in the next 2-3 years.

This role offers the chance to work closely with an established Private Equity CFO, leading a talented finance team while playing a pivotal role in shaping the company’s financial future during this transformative period.

The Role

The Group Financial Controller will report directly to the CFO and lead a finance team of 8, taking full responsibility for technical finance, compliance, and reporting. This individual will act as a trusted partner to senior stakeholders, ensuring financial rigour and supporting both pre- and post-deal activities. The role also involves driving system optimisation to enhance scalability and ensure seamless integration of acquisitions.

  • Lead the group’s financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
  • Oversee technical accounting, tax, and compliance matters across the business.
  • Support M&A activity, including pre-deal financial due diligence and post-deal integration.
  • Partner with the CFO and senior leadership team to provide robust financial insights to drive strategic decision-making.
  • Optimise financial systems and processes to support the group’s rapid growth and acquisitions.
  • Manage and develop a high-performing finance team, ensuring they are equipped to meet the demands of a fast-paced, evolving business.
  • Produce consolidated group accounts and deliver reporting to Private Equity investors.
  • Drive internal controls, ensuring they remain robust as the group scales.
  • Act as the key technical finance lead, providing a “rock-solid” foundation for the finance function during the company’s high-growth phase.

The Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will be a technically strong and commercially aware finance professional with a track record of success in high-growth environments. They will thrive in a Private Equity-backed setting, balancing technical precision with a strategic outlook.
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with extensive post-qualification experience.
  • Proven experience in technical finance, compliance, and reporting in a group structure.
  • Familiarity with Private Equity-backed businesses and buy-and-build strategies is highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of M&A processes, including pre-deal preparation and post-deal integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with senior stakeholders and influence decision-making.
  • Hands-on approach with experience leading and developing finance teams.
  • Proficient in financial system optimisation and process improvement.
