I’m supporting a private equity–backed, multi-site UK services platform operating in a highly regulated environment to appoint an Interim Group Head of Tax and Treasury.

This is a critical Group finance leadership role within a complex organisation delivering essential services at national scale. The business operates across multiple regulated divisions, partnering extensively with public sector stakeholders and managing significant contractual and compliance obligations.

The mandate is clear: protect value, optimise structure, ensure compliance and support strategic growth.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Group Finance Director, this is a standalone role with full ownership of Group tax affairs and oversight of treasury governance. Tax leadership forms the majority of the remit (c.80%), with treasury oversight focused on banking, reporting and covenant management. You will play a key role in supporting the Group through ongoing transformation, financing and transaction activity.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax Strategy, Governance & Value Protection

  • Ownership of Group tax strategy and risk framework
  • Managing effective tax rate and identifying structural optimisation opportunities
  • Full oversight of corporate tax, indirect tax, employment taxes and transfer pricing
  • Lead relationship with HMRC including risk reviews and enquiries
  • Ensuring robust compliance across all statutory and regulatory tax requirements
  • Oversight of VAT and partial exemption structures in complex service environments
  • Ownership of IR35 governance and employment tax risk
  • Provision of commercial tax guidance to senior leadership and operating divisions
  • Transaction support including due diligence, structuring and post-deal integration

Treasury Governance & Financial Risk Management

  • Oversight of treasury controls, governance and cash visibility
  • Banking relationships, reporting and covenant compliance
  • Supporting funding strategy and financing structures
  • Ensuring appropriate facilities to support operational and strategic needs

Candidate Profile

  • Senior, qualified tax leader (CTA / ACA / ACCA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience leading tax in large, complex, multi-entity organisations
  • Strong technical command across corporate tax, VAT and employment tax
  • Experienced managing HMRC engagement and regulatory scrutiny
  • Transaction experience across M&A, refinancing and restructuring
  • Comfortable operating as a standalone Group subject matter expert
  • Commercially minded, pragmatic and risk-aware
  • Effective senior stakeholder manager able to partner with Exec and investors
  • Treasury exposure advantageous but not essential

Experience with regulated, outsourced, infrastructure-style or public-sector-aligned businesses and PE-backed environments is advantageous.
