Initial 12 month contract
We’re working with a private equity–backed renewable energy business with current revenues of c.£50 million and ambitious plans to scale. As they prepare for the next phase of growth, the business is seeking a technically strong Interim Financial Controller to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function and support the CFO on a range of upcoming strategic and technical projects.
The Role
This is a hands-on yet strategically important position. You’ll report directly to the CFO, providing technical rigour across core finance processes while also leading special projects that are central to the company’s growth and investor agenda.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the finance function on a day-to-day basis, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and robust internal controls
- Taking ownership of month-end close, consolidations, statutory reporting and liaising with external auditors
- Driving improvements in systems, processes, and reporting to support scale
- Managing cashflow forecasting and working capital oversight
- Delivering technical finance support to the CFO across projects
- Producing Board and investor-level packs, providing technical accounting input and scenario modelling
- Leading and developing a small finance team, ensuring high standards of delivery
About You
You’ll be a technically strong and detail-driven finance leader with experience operating in private equity–backed, high-growth environments. You combine the rigour of a controller with the flexibility to support on broader strategic projects.
Ideal background:
- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), ideally trained in Big 4/Top 10
- Previous experience as Financial Controller in a PE-backed or growth-stage business
- Deep technical grounding in IFRS/UK GAAP, consolidations, and statutory reporting
- Strong track record of delivering special projects (ERP, refinancing, audit readiness, M&A integration)
- Excellent cashflow forecasting and financial modelling capability
- Strong communicator with credibility to work closely with both a strategic CFO and external investors
- Sector experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, or other capital-intensive industries advantageous but not essential
