How has the business changed since you joined in 2018?
It’s evolved dramatically: we’ve matured as a brand and what began as a specialist finance consultancy is now a full-spectrum private capital talent partner. That new breadth has allowed us to support our clients and candidates in more meaningful, scalable ways. One of the shifts I’m most proud of is the change in culture. We’ve also made real strides in diversity, especially among top performers. When I started, we were a 20-person team focused exclusively on UK finance roles, and today, we’re a 100+ person business operating across three international offices with specialist verticals in finance, transformation, tech, data, and fund hiring.
What were the biggest challenges of launching Finatal in new markets?
Breaking into the European market wasn’t easy – especially mid-pandemic. Initially, we had no physical presence or native language consultants and no brand equity outside the UK. Everything was remote and we were going head-to-head with many of the long-established players to win work. We had to be relentless. Every pitch counted. We started out by focusing on interim delivery, using solution-based selling to help clients solve urgent challenges. That fresh approach gave us an edge – clients were drawn to our exclusive private equity focus and entrepreneurial mindset. Today, we’ve built a high-performing European team of exceptional consultants delivering across the continent.
What do you enjoy most about working in the European PE market?
It’s constantly evolving. I love the breadth of sectors, as it keeps you sharp. It was especially rewarding to help launch our Germany office. Each region has its own rhythm but the opportunity is huge. We’ve now delivered mandates in over 30 countries – something that felt unimaginable when I first joined. What I find most fulfilling is following our clients across their investment journeys: supporting them from first deal to exit, across funds and geographies. It makes the work we do feel genuinely high-impact.
What’s kept you at Finatal for more than six years?
The primary reason is the autonomy and the freedom to build. There’s real support from leadership and if you have a clear vision and the drive to execute, you’re given the space to run with it. That level of trust is rare. Our culture fully encourages creativity and I really thrive on growing our capabilities, as well as outperforming the competition.
As one of Finatal’s top billers, what does it take to succeed here?
