Finatal is partnering with a PE-backed environmental services business undergoing an exciting period of transformation and growth. With a strong market position and an evolving finance function, the business is seeking a driven and ambitious Financial Controller to join the leadership team and play a key role in professionalising finance operations and supporting future growth initiatives.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong accountant looking to take ownership of the finance function, lead a team, and work closely with an experienced Finance Director in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing financial control, reporting, compliance, and cash management while managing and developing a growing finance team. You will act as a key business partner across operations, providing financial insight to support decision-making and performance improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the month-end close process and ensuring timely, accurate management reporting.
- Ownership of balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals, prepayments, and financial controls.
- Preparing board and management reporting packs with insightful commentary.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Managing daily cashflow, working capital, and treasury activities.
- Leading the year-end audit process and coordinating statutory reporting requirements.
- Overseeing tax compliance and liaising with external advisors.
- Managing, mentoring, and developing a finance team.
- Driving process improvement initiatives across finance systems, reporting, and controls.
- Partnering with operational stakeholders to improve profitability and business performance.
The Candidate
We are looking for a high-calibre finance professional who combines strong technical accounting skills with a proactive, commercial mindset.
You will ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
- Preference for immediately available candidates.
- Previous Financial Controller experience, or a strong number two ready to step into their first FC role.
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.
- Experience managing audits, statutory accounts, and compliance processes.
- Proven ability to lead and develop finance teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to operate in a dynamic environment.
- Experience within PE-backed businesses, industrial, environmental services, logistics, construction, or related sectors is advantageous but not essential.
