An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Financial Controller to join a growing, Private Equity-backed professional services business in London.
With revenues of circa £20m and EBITDA of approximately £5m, the business is entering an important phase of its development, with continued growth and professionalisation ahead of an anticipated exit in the next 2–3 years.
Reporting directly to an established Private Equity CFO, this is a genuine number-two finance role, offering significant exposure across the business and the opportunity to play a key role in its continued evolution.

The Role:
The Financial Controller will work closely with the CFO, taking significant ownership for the day-to-day finance function while helping build the infrastructure, processes and standards required for the next stage of growth.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the CFO’s key finance partner and number two.
- Leading, developing and motivating the finance team.
- Owning the core finance operation, ensuring high-quality reporting, robust controls and strong financial discipline.
- Driving the continued optimisation and professionalisation of finance processes, systems and reporting.
- Supporting the CFO in developing a scalable, high-performing finance function.
- Partnering with senior stakeholders across the business, providing insight, support and constructive challenge.
- Supporting the business through continued growth, including the integration of future acquisitions where appropriate.
- Helping prepare the business and finance function for an eventual Private Equity exit.
- Continually challenging the status quo and identifying opportunities to improve the way finance supports the wider organisation.
The Requirements:
The successful candidate will be a professionally qualified accountant with the ambition and capability to operate beyond a traditional Financial Controller remit.
They will ideally bring:
- A recognised professional finance qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
- Experience within professional services, agency, legal or another people-led environment.
- Ideally, experience within a Private Equity-backed business, although high-growth or change-driven experience will also be highly relevant.
- Strong financial control foundations alongside a commercial, forward-looking mindset.
- Experience leading and developing a finance team.
- Strong stakeholder-management skills and the ability to build relationships across an organisation.
- A dynamic, ambitious and improvement-focused approach, with a natural desire to challenge existing ways of working.
- The ability to remain hands-on while operating as a credible and trusted partner to the CFO.
