Finatal are partnered with a £15m t/o UK digital and software services business, enabling organisations to manage, share, and exploit data more effectively. As a private equity-backed business, the company is scaling quickly and seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to lead its finance function through this exciting phase (PE exit in 24 months).

Role Summary

Reporting directly to the CFO, you will lead the finance function across all entities, with a small team of 2 direct reports. This is a rare opportunity to own end-to-end finance, from management reporting and statutory compliance to cashflow, budgeting, and financial governance. You will act as a trusted partner to the CFO, business leaders, and project teams, driving insight, control, and operational efficiency. Exposure to PE processes, acquisitions, or due diligence is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a small finance team (2 direct reports), fostering high performance and accountability.
  • Manage end-to-end monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure accurate accounting records.
  • Own cash, net working capital, and forecasting processes.
  • Drive annual budgeting, reforecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Partner with project and sales teams to monitor project revenues, costs, and margins; investigate variances and anomalies.
  • Prepare management, board, and investor reporting, including KPIs and financial models.
  • Lead annual statutory audit and ensure compliance with all accounting and tax requirements (VAT, R&D credits, payroll, company secretarial).
  • Implement and maintain robust financial controls, processes, and governance.
  • Support ad hoc projects including acquisitions, due diligence, and post-merger integration.
  • Liaise with banks, pension providers, and external advisors to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.

About You

  • ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent), with 5+ years post-qualification experience.
  • Experienced in leading the production of management accounts end-to-end.
  • Strong commercial acumen, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable running a finance function almost independently, with a small team.
  • Experienced in private equity environments, acquisitions, or due diligence a strong advantage.
  • Excellent communicator, able to influence senior stakeholders and business teams.
